This exclusive 50,000 square foot corporate club occupies the top five floors of a 31-story premier office building located in the Sathorn City Tower of Bangkok's financial district.
This interior design project, completed in August 1995, was of the main lounge and reception floor, on a setback of the building. The terrace was reinforced for a reflecting pool that runs the entire three lengths of the setback. The sunlight reflects off the pool creating rippling shadows on the silver leaf ceiling of the double height main lobby/lounge. An 18-inch side slot was created on both sides of the private elevator at the core, which extends the four floors of the club. The four-story wall was gold leafed and accentuated with incandescent wall washers. This luminous volume provides a warm glow throughout the entire club.
Local crafts and materials were explored for innovative application and utilization, including: woven copper on sliding door panels; mother of pearl on glass partitions; cast textured glass stair treads and enclosures; and local hand woven silk carpets and fabrics of luminous Thai color palettes. Carved wood transoms, gold leafed finials, terra cotta deities, large Changmai ceramic pots with blooming orchids and scented jasmine complete the luxurious interiors. The design vocabulary emphasizes familiar spatial relationships and principles, as well as traditional materials and colors that are part of the Thai culture yet create a classic, timeless, understated and international statement.
