The building of the North American headquarters of Swiss Re America was a collaboration between Iu + Bibliowicz Architects, Perkins and Will Architects and Schnebli, Ammann, Ruchat Architects of Zurich, completed in 1999. The 400,000 square foot metal and glass low-rise structure is perched on a knoll and has views of the surrounding Westchester County Land Trust and Kensico Reservoir.
The interior concept complements the base building's sense of openness by creating a flexible work environment. Iu + Bibliowicz Architects achieved the goal of humanizing a high tech workplace by placing workstations at the perimeter of the floor with access to daylight and views. A "town square" concept was implemented to create an atmosphere that fosters ample formal and informal meeting areas. The office planning approach interpreted and responded to the culture of Swiss Re, while reinforcing the management organization of the corporation. The neutral palette of warm wood veneers, pale green carpet, and earth tones echo the landscape.
In addition to the office spaces, the building accommodates a 320-seat staff cafeteria, a 40 person private dining facility with a wine cellar, a training center with teleconferencing suites, meeting/breakout rooms and a fitness center complete with medical support and an outdoor running track. Two executive suites and a conference/boardroom complex complete the building amenities.
